Stipends and Benefits
The 2013-14 stipends for residents in the University of Washington Medicine Residency Program are:
All interns and residents receive three weeks of vacation per year.
Major medical, dental, basic life, accident, and long-term disability insurance plans are provided to all housestaff and their dependents. Optional supplemental life insurance and a flexible spending account for medical expenses are available through the University of Washington.
Residents, chief residents, and fellows are included in the UW Retirement Plan. They may also choose to participate in the UW Voluntary Investment Program (VIP), a tax-deferred retirement savings program.
Housestaff are entitled to staff privileges at the University of Washington, including use of the libraries, on-line services, the Intramural Activities Building (with extensive sports facilities, equipment, and activities), and reduced prices on tickets for some sports and cultural activities. Other benefits include dependent care assistance, home-buying options, transportation, and employee discounts.
The department maintains informal listings for medicine residents of houses and apartments for rent and sale in the Seattle area, and provides recommendations upon request. All interns who match with our program receive the Seattle Relocation Guide, which provides extensive information about moving to Seattle.
