In MUS 588: Grant Writing, students learn how to identify relevant grant funding opportunities and determine their fit for a particular institution or project; gain familiarity with the basic components of a grant proposal; and understand how grant proposals are reviewed, what funders are typically looking for, and the characteristics of a high quality grant proposal. In a project-based approach, students work in small groups to design and write a grant proposal in response to a local funding solicitation, 4Culture’s Heritage Projects. The course culminates with 4Culture program officers presenting a mock review panel in which students get detailed feedback on their proposals.
