The “Innovation in Outdoor Exploration” event was planned and facilitated by students in the UW Museology Public Programming class in conjunction with the Bezos Center for Innovation at the Museum of History and Industry to celebrate the ways that innovations-from gear to technologies to public policies– have changed the ways we explore and enjoy the outdoors.
From a high tech backpacker cot to a 1922 newsreel of an ascent of Mt Rainier, from hiking boots to iPhone apps, from first aid kits to tree identification and digital photography, the event had something for everyone.
Our partners included Washington Trails Association, Mountaineers Books, Outdoor Research, UW Libraries Special Collections, and many friends and explorers of the Northwest.
