Snow knives vs. Story Knives project
The collection of snow knives and story knives from Arctic Alaska in Ethnology needs better documentation and identification. Student will communicate with Justin McCarthy and scour resources/references to document this collection.
Rock Art Drawings There is a collection of catalogued drawings of rock art from the South Seas and Africa which needs to be measured, briefly described and digitally photographed. There is an additional collection of related drawings which have not been catalogued yet – these also need to be catalogued and photographed. Perhaps a bit of detective work to determine the correct accession for these uncatalogued drawings.
Ethnographic Material from South Asia These collections are not actively used or researched, but digital photographs need to be taken of the material, and added to the Ethnology database. This practicum would involve photography and object inventory.
George Emmons Field Notes The handwritten field notes need to be scanned and then cropped for each entry. These digital records can then be linked to the ethnographic object records for the Ethnology database.
Roger Ernesti/Erna Gunther Ethnobotanical Notes This important archives contains valuable information and language terms for different ethnobotanical plants found in the Pacific Northwest. The records need to be copied onto archival paper and then scanned to make digital files.
