CMENC Chapter #56 at the University of Washington

Purpose Statement
The purpose of MENC collegiate membership is to afford students an opportunity for professional orientation and development while still in school and to enable students to gain an understanding of:

The basic truths and principles that underlie the role of music in human life;
The philosophy and function of the music education profession;
The professional interests of members involved in the local, state, division, and national levels to establish contacts with leaders of the profession;
The music industry's role in support of music education; and
The knowledge and practices of the professional music educator as facilitated through chapter activity.
Here at the University of Washington, we meet once a month to discuss issues important to our future as music educators.  This year we have several opportunities to learn from other professionals and work with children.  In February, we have the MENC All-Northwest Conference in Portland, Oregon; a week later, we are hosting a group of pre-schoolers who wish to learn about different musical instruments; and in the spring, Walt Hampton is returning with his marimba ensemble to play a concert for us.
