
PH.D. REQUIREMENTS
The School of Music offers a Ph.D. degree in Music Education with areas of specialization tailored to the educational goals of the graduate student. The following guidesheet serves as a basis for the Supervisory Committee in developing a graduate program of studies. Doctoral students are advised to select a Chair of the Supervisory Committee during the third or fourth quarter of graduate study.

Courses and/or seminars in major area(s) of concentration within the School of Music proposed and approved by Chair of Supervisory Committee. The areas of study may include music education, conducting, ethnomusicology, music history, music theory, and performance. Approved 400-level and above courses can be applied to major cognate area(s) of concentration.
MINOR COGNATE AREA
Courses and/or seminars in a minor area of concentration outside the School of Music are to be selected from among the following: anthropology, dance, drama, education curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, philosophy, psychology, sociology and special education. Approved 300-level and above courses can be applied to the minor area of concentration.
Professional Presentations
All students in the Ph.D. program must present two clinical or research sessions at a professional venue such as a state or national conference as part of the graduation requirements.
