Teaching Practica 2a & 2b - A
Simple Song You will have the opportunity to select one song for band or strings to teach by ear (prac. 2a) or will be assigned one song from a method book for band or strings to teach in class (prac. 2b). Each new song can introduce new skills and challenges for the ensemble. Depending on which segment of the practicum you teach, your task will include several of the following: 1. To identify a song you
can teach efficiently and effectively (you may wish to select a song
from Tunes and Grooves);
2. To identify the new musical challenges through a thorough consideration of students' previous skills and study of preceding units in the method book; 3. To construct a lesson that includes attention to this new knowledge; 4. To present a successful performance of the selected or assigned song. For this lesson you should turn in a lesson plan detailing the specific musical challenges the students must address and the sequence of your instruction. Follow the format that was introduced in MUSED 304 and MUSED 340. You will also be asked to turn in a notated copy of your song in advance. Lessons will be 7 minutes in length. Some things to keep in mind: 1. All students should be engaged in musical (or music-related) activity for the majority of the lesson.Teaching Order - Day 1 (Practicum 2a - rote song)
