The Husky Battalion has been working hard this Spring Quarter between Northwest Navy, midterms, and representing the Battalion in the community through StaffPro events, Opening Day, and presence on campus. At drill the Battalion was briefed on procedures for the PFA tomorrow and the FEP policy. Overall, its been an eventful time, and there are still a few more challenges left this academic quarter. Good luck to all of the Battalion members and stay motivated!

Spring Quarter begins!

Apr

The battalion kicked of the first week of spring quarter with a motivating run around campus for battalion PT!

During drill, LT Gardner gave an important brief about Operational Risk Management (ORM) and how to appropriately react and approach any given situation. LT Boehm and MIDN 1/C Kleven followed and gave a brief about what is happening at Northwest Navy, the do's and don'ts, and how everything will be conducted.

We started spring quarter strong, now lets keep building that momentum until the end! Have fun and dominate at NWN Husky Battalion!

Another Tuesday Morning Drill!

Feb

During Tuesday drill the Battalion had two informative briefs and a message from our BSM. The first brief was about the Command Climate Assessment, ran by LT Gardner. The battalion learned the importance of this survey and how it can benefit and improve our NROTC unit. Battalion members should take this seriously and give good constructive feedback.

Naval Leadership Weekend at the University of Notre Dame was last weekend and MIDN Westmoreland, Morris, Gaylor, and Pond briefed the battalion on some of the leadership lessons that were covered.

The End Is In Sight

Feb

As winter quarter starts winding down, the last of the mid terms and the upcoming finals have many of the Midshipmen wishing for spring break. NW Navy rosters have been finalized and many battalion members are looking forward to the trip and the competition. Drill this week was an NCIS brief for those with security clearances which proved very insightful. Bulldog engaged in a swamp land nav course designed by SSgt Gentry and SSgt Phansiri, which saw the Midshipmen putting to the test what they had learned in the classroom. Good Luck with the rest of the quarter battalion!

Good Luck With Mid-Terms!

Drill this week was split, with the Navy options receiving a brief from LT Kigin on the MH-60R and MH-60S, and from LT Ford about the P-3C Orion and the P-8 Poseidon. The briefs taught the Navy Option Midshipmen about the functionality of the different aircraft. Useful information no matter what the intended community is. Meanwhile the Marine Options mustered in Clark Hall for a class on Land Navigation. The Midshipmen learned how to use protractors, compasses, and maps to plot grid coordinates and shoot azimuths.

The Winter break has ended and the Husky Battalion has kicked off the new quarter with a service khaki inspection and a brief from Captain Melin during drill. The battalion learned and discussed the lessons that can be learned from the hazing incident on the guided missile destroyer Jason Dunham. The CO stressed the importance of being caught up on Navy and Marine Corps current events and the lessons that can be learned from the mistakes and successes of Navy personnel in the fleet. Good luck this quarter!
