About the rotation

As a Chief in the 5 th year you complete a rotation at the University of Washington in General Orthopaedics. The Chief oversees the activities of the junior residents and participates in surgeries and clinics in Shoulder and Elbow, Adult Reconstruction, Sports Medicine, primarily, with the opportunity to become involved in Spine, Tumor, and Foot operative cases.

Goals & objectives

The freedom during this rotation for the Chief allows him or her to participate in cases where they would like to round out their experience or where they have a particular interest. The Chief also supervises the juniors, both acting as a mentor to them and leading conferences once a month. The Chief is the first point of contact for the juniors when they see cases in the Emergency Room. They guide the formulation of a plan and it's enactment for these on-call cases. They also participate in the cases that come in from call and need operative management. They again serve as an educator for the juniors during these circumstances as well as the Attendings.
