The Phi Beta Kappa chapter at the University of Washington seeks an Executive Secretary. The Executive Secretary assists the chapter's Executive Committee in administering the affairs of the chapter. This is a part-time, non-UW position ideal for a retiree who wishes to contribute to the work of the chapter on campus. The full job description is below.

Job Description

The Executive Secretary is responsible for administering the affairs of the University of Washington chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society. Washington Alpha chapter was established at the University in 1914 and is overseen by an Executive Board comprised of eleven Phi Beta Kappa members currently on the faculty and staff of the University. The Executive Secretary reports to the Board and takes direction from the chapter President and other officers as necessary.

Under the direction of the Board, the Executive Secretary is responsible for managing the annual review of candidates for election to Phi Beta Kappa, managing the chapter’s finances, producing reports on annual activity, communicating with the national Phi Beta Kappa office, liaison to various University departments, communicating with candidates for membership and recording acceptances to chapter membership. The executive secretary is also an ex officio member of the Puget Sound Association of Phi Beta Kappa’s board of trustees. The position is part-time for eleven months a year, averaging approximately ten hours per week. Compensation is $500 per month; $5,500 annually.

Phi Beta Kappa is an independent national organization chartered to the University of Washington. This position is not a UW position; the individual is employed by the Washington Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, a registered 501(c)3 organization. Office space and equipment are provided at the University of Washington.
