Experience
The program is structured with a 3-weeks inpatient (floor + PICU) and 3-weeks outpatient practices mix. Instructors are family medicine residents and subspecialists, with two students per rotation.
Care of hospitalized children as well as the care of newborns occurs in the Providence Alaska Children’s Hospital. The pediatric floor has 32 beds, with 9 beds in the intensive care unit. Clinics are based out of Anchorage Neighborhood Health Clinic, and The Children’s Hospital at Providence as well as a variety of primary pediatric offices.
Housing
There is a dedicated shared apartment available to students. The apartment is within walking distance of Providence Hospital Medical Center, and the University of Alaska Anchorage Campus. To confirm availability, contact Ciera Stafford.
AK WWAMI housing at UAA maintains the following requirements:
- Arrival/Check-In: Students may check-in after 3:00PM the Sunday prior to the start of their rotation.
- Departure/Check-Out: Students must check-out no later than 3:00PM the Friday following testing.
- Prior to departure, students are responsible for washing linens and ensuring a clean apartment.
- There is a no-guest policy, including spouses, and family.
Check-in and check-out times are strictly enforced, as this time allows for any additional cleaning, inventory, and ongoing maintenance.
Early arrivals and late departures can be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, however, require prior approval. If approval is not sought or granted, any expenses incurred will be student responsibility.
If you plan on arriving early, or departing late, please plan accordingly both with your air travel and make alternative housing arrangements.
