Weekend call is from 8:00 a.m. Saturday to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

Inpatient Care: all students spend three weeks with the pediatric hospitalists. During our days we pre-round on patients, attend multidisciplinary rounds at 9am every day, round on all children on the pediatric floor and PICU. We ask that you formally present your patients on rounds every day and provide input on their care. Daily progress notes are in SOAP format and are problem-based plans. Admission H&Ps must be complete within 12 hours. We want you to truly follow your patients from the time of admission until discharge. Therefore, we encourage you to follow them through surgery, endoscopy, interventional radiology, etc.

Outpatient Care: students spend three weeks in an outpatient clinic. You will participate in well-child visits including complete examinations, anticipatory guidance, growth and development assessments, behavior and learning problems and immunizations. These examinations are done on infants, toddlers, school-aged children, and adolescents. You will also take care of ill children and children with chronic diseases. Some students will have the opportunity to participate in specialty clinics.

Other opportunities may include working with pediatric sub-specialists (surgery, hematology/oncology, neonatology, cardiology, neurology, endocrine, neurosurgery, GI, psychiatry (including the inpatient pediatric psychiatry unit), and anesthesia).
