Art in the Tower presents the UW Faculty and Staff Photography Exhibit

UW Art in the Tower presents the 2012 UW Faculty and Staff Photography in the UW Tower 4th Floor Mezzanine Gallery, January – April 2012, featuring a collection of 38 photographs by 30 UW faculty and staff from across campus.

The exhibit showcases an exciting array of digital and print images. Themes range from classic northwest scenery and life in situ to industrial and architectural perspectives; and social commentary to familial snapshots and light-hearted serendipitous sightings.

An artists’ reception will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2:00-3;15 p.m. in the UW Tower, 4th Floor Mezzanine Gallery.

Please remember that the UW Tower is a secured building. People without a Husky Card will need to be escorted by someone with a Husky card. Building hours are 6am-6pm M-F.

Art in the Tower hosts rotating and permanent exhibits in five gallery spaces in the UW Tower complex. In addition to promoting creative works by UW staff and faculty, Art in the Tower also sponsors the “Kidz Wall” (artwork by children of UW staff); exhibits by notable UW and northwest artists such as Ray Hill and Mary Randlett; and shows by UW affiliates.

The Art in the Tower committee is made up of volunteers from departments located in the UW Tower and falls under the auspices of UW Tower Facilities.

Mission Statement

Art in the Tower celebrates artistic expression, encourages creativity, and enhances the visual landscape at the UW Tower through a rotating exhibit of works of art by students, faculty, staff and affiliates.

The UW photo lab, part of Classroom Support Services in Kane Hall, is closing and we are sorry to see the loss of two wonderful photographers and this worthy lab due to budget cuts. Some of the services to UW's Special Collections will be picked up by UW Creative in Health Sciences.

Meeting: January 10 in Room T-269, Health Sciences Building 5:30~7:30

Bring one or two photographs of your choice: either your own or a favorite print from a magazine, book, newspaper, etc. The print must be at least 5 x 7" or larger. Bring a pen or pencil to write with. The evening will be about perception: that of the onlooker and that of the photographer. If you know too much about the particulars or think about it too much before the evening, it might take the fun and insight away from the exercise. The photograph(s) can be telling some of sort of story (or not), can be abstract or noticeably obvious in some way, can be a film print or digitalized, black and white or color, just clear enough to get a good look at, or even not so clear...

There will be some snacks. Sometimes we go for a late supper in the area if anyone's interested.

Hello UWPG!

I'm Julia Bruk, an alumn of UW and ex-president of UW Photography Club.
Myself and two of my partners, Phil McGuire and Paul Son, who also ran photo club with me 3 years ago, have been working on building this studio from a big commercial warehouse room to the beautiful textured giant space it is today.
I invite you all to come and celebrate with a big multimedia party as we show the types of things we would love to happen in this studio space.

"not your average studio" is our tagline simply because we are about the community and encouraging beginners and/or people with less funds to come and use our space to learn at affordable rates.

We will also be hosting a wide array of classes, workshops, and photo walks throughout the year and we would love to have people give seminars or help teach, so please e-mail us if you are interested.
Attached is the event postcard. We have an open house 6-8, the the event starts which will include a live dress making photoshoot you can jump in on anytime( we will pass around the trigger), aerialists performer, opera jazz vocalist, and live greenscreen video making that you can be a part of!
Please join us or come make an appointment to check out our space :)
BRING YOUR CAMERAS!
Julia Bruk
