Pretest Instructions
Almost all pretests in Physics 12x will be given online. The first pretest should be completed on the first day of the quarter or early on the second day. All subsequent pretests must be completed between Friday after class and the following Monday before class. Consult the appropriate page above for the specific times.
Technical requirements for taking the pretest online.
Browser:
Use Netscape Navigator 4.0 (or better), Internet Explorer 4.0 (or better), Firefox, or Safari with Cookies and Javascript enabled and figures turned on.
UW NetID:
You will need a UW NetID to access the pretest. Your email username is your UW NetID (i.e., the part of your email address that comes before the "@u.washington.edu"). If you do not have a UW NetID, you can obtain one online at http://www.washington.edu/computing/uwnetid/
Times at which the pretest is available.
You are responsible for taking the online pretest between Friday and Monday.
The exception is Pretest 1 (see pretest schedule:
121 -
122 -
123).
The pretests will not be available at other times.
Time limit for the pretest.
You should take about 12 minutes to complete the pretest. The pretest will be automatically submitted after 15 minutes whether you are finished or not.
Take the pretest in one sitting.
You cannot take a particular pretest more than once so be sure you have a 12 to 15 minute block of time where you will not be interrupted.

To receive credit for the pretest we must either have your pretest submission or an email explaining any difficulties you were having. The email describing any difficulties must be received by us during the times that the pretest is due; you must include the information below to receive credit.
In the subject of your email:
- Include your UW email username, section, and the pretest number. (e.g., joesmith, aa, 7)
In the body of your email:
- Indicate the browser you are using (with the version number)
- Whether you are using a Mac or a PC
- The location from which you are accessing the pretest (e.g., home, study center, Odegaard, etc.)
- Last name
- First name
- Tutorial section
- A detailed description of the problem you are having.
