Q. I already have a UW plate on my vehicle can I get the new UW design?
- Yes, current UW plate holders can purchase a replacement plate with the new design. You will need to pay a replacement plate fee and you will receive a new license plate number. Current plate holders cannot keep their old license plate number, because the new design has a new number series.
Q. Do I receive my plates on the day I purchase them?
- The plates are mailed to the registered owner within two business days of the purchase.
Q. What is the cost of the new UW plates?
- The original cost to purchase a UW plates varies based on applicable licensing fees. The replacement plate is roughly $15.00 and $30.00 is charged for each new and renewed plate. Of this, $28.00 is a tax-deductible donation to the UW general scholarship fund. To determine the total cost due, contact your local vehicle licensing office.
Q. Will plates be issued numerically in the order in which they are applied for?
- Yes. The Department of Licensing computer system issues the plates in numerical order.
Q. When will I know what my new plate number will be?
- Your new registration will show your new license plate number. The Department of Licensing computer system assigns plate numbers in numerical order when a transaction is finalized. No vehicle licensing agent can override the Department of Licensing's computer system to assign a specific number.
Q. Can I personalize my UW special license plate?

- Yes. These plates may be transferred from vehicle to vehicle as long as the registered owner remains the same.
Q. Can I put the new UW license plates on a leased car?
- Yes. The registered holder of the lease may purchase the license plates for a leased vehicle.
Q. Can I put UW plates on a company car?
- Yes! There are some restrictions based on how the car is registered. It is best to contact your licensing agent to clarify if this is possible with your car.
Q. Can I keep the number on my old Husky plates when I buy new ones?
- Current plate holders cannot keep their old license plate number because the new design has a new number series.
Q. Can I purchase a new plate even if my vehicle is not yet due for tab renewal?
- Yes. You can purchase a new plate at any point during your registration period. No need to delay— get a new Husky license plate today!
Q. Can I keep my old UW plates?
