New RHRC Director Named. Mark Doescher, MD, MSPH, has been named the new Director of the WWAMI Rural Health Research Center. Mark has been an investigator with the RHRC since 1997, and takes over the position vacated by Dr. Gary Hart, who recently left the University of Washington for a position at the University of Arizona.
RUCA Codes Version 2.0 are Available. The Rural Urban Commuting Area (RUCA) codes have been updated to reflect the 2000 Census and 2004 ZIP code areas. These codes were developed by Dr. Gary Hart and colleagues to better distinguish different types of rural areas, and are being widely used by researchers and policy makers. Please visit the RUCA site for futher information.
Study of Nation's Federally Funded Health Centers includes publication in JAMA. Findings from a project conducted at the WWAMI RHRC were recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, and received widespread media attention. The project surveyed administrators of community health centers across the nation about staffing patterns and recruitment and retention issues at a time of planned health center expansion.
