UW Affiliated Hospitals

Five major hospitals are integrated into the general surgery teaching program: University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Puget Sound Veterans Administration Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and the Everett Clinic/Providence-Everett Hospital. These hospitals have a combined total of just under 1600 beds of which approximately 20% are general surgical beds. Each hospital's surgical service is staffed by full-time members of the faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine.

University of Washington Academic Medical Center
UWMC Surgery Pavillion The UW Medical Center is a 450-bed comprehensive care facility with more than 100 outpatient clinics and multidisciplinary specialty centers, including a new state-of-the-art Surgery Pavilion. The nearly 741 attending physicians at UWMC are also full-time faculty members at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Explore UWMC
Harborview Medical Center

Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System
VAPSHCSOur VA receives the second highest level of funding in the US. Some of the medical center's services include the VA's first bone marrow transplant unit, a geriatric research/education/evaluation unit, a same-day surgical unit, the Center of Excellence for Alcohol, Substance Abuse Treatment, and Spinal Cord Injury. The Everett Clinic/Providence-Everett Hospital
The Everett Clinic's Department of Surgery currently includes 6 board certified general surgeons employed by The Everett Clinic, a 270 physician multi-specialty clinic located in Everett, Washington. The Department is expanding to 9 surgeons: three "surgical hospitalists", two surgical oncologists, one laparoscopic fellowship trained surgeon, and three additional Board Certified surgeons. The group's surgical practice may be the prototype of a community surgical practice. The surgeons presently complete between 5500 and 6500 major cases per year including all aspects of a typical general surgery practice including elective and emergent surgical services to the clinic patients and hospital emergency department. Practice sites include: a 250 bed Providence Everett Medical Center with 9 operating rooms and one of the busiest emergency departments in Washington State; a 200 bed Providence Women's and Children's Pavilion with 7 operating rooms and Emergency Department; two free standing surgical centers with a combined 11 rooms operated by The Everett Clinic; and, the Department of Surgery Clinic offices. The Providence Everett Medical Center is replacing its current 250 bed facility with a new 450 bed facility at the same site, adjacent to the Department of Surgery offices. Explore Everett Clinic
