The University of Washington TBI Model System is one of 14 government-funded centers in the United States that:
- seeks to find out what happens to people who have a TBI, how they recover and what to expect on a long-term basis.
- examines various treatments that may lessen the problems caused by brain injury.
- provides state of the art rehabilitation that meets the needs of people with TBI and their families.
The University of Washington was selected as a TBI Model System site because Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington are national leaders in clinical care and research in TBI. The UW TBIMS cares for most patients with serious brain injuries in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Alaska states. We have a full range of specialized clinical services including: emergency treatment, trauma care, rehabilitation care and long term follow-up.
