TBI Art Show 2010
Recreating Me: Exploring & Healing through Creative Expression
2nd Annual TBI Artist Showcase
Composition #3 by Hillary Bassett-Ross
The 2nd Annual Traumatic Brain Injury Art Show opened July 6th to a large crowd of artists & supporting family, friends, and community members who enjoyed a beautiful exhibit of multi-media art: paintings, photographs, music, videos, sculptures and more) portraying the artists' stories and perspectives. The show ran through July 11th, 2010 at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture. Heather Porter, TBI Art Show Chair, welcomes you to the show with her words from opening night:
In Fairytales there is something hidden away. And as Clarissa Piñkola Estes writes, "In Fairytales there is a symbol of the pot of porridge that never runs out, the bottle of joy that never goes dry, the bowl of sunlight where never comes night. These ancient ideas are about an element we all carry."
It is this element that carried these survivors, these artists, through the chaos and darkness. On their way there were stretches when it seemed like they were only slowly moving towards a dim lantern in the distance. But with time, tenacity, and bravery they found their lights and lit up the night. They are gathered here now, forever stars.
