Sept 2006: LUTE will soon have a new eye-tracker from Tobii, funded by the UW Student Technology Fee. LUTE will also receive the Morae usability testing software.
July & August 2006: LUTE's portable usability lab is popular for medical and health related Web site testing! Mark Haselkorn's research group (from TC) uses the portable lab to test an information system for VA patient care; Huong Nguyen's research group (from Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems) tests a web site for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
June 2006: Dr. Lynne Cooke from the University of North Texas came to LUTE to conduct her third eye-tracking study on Web site usability.
May 2006: UWTC graduate students Margaret Schultz and Cynthia Putnam perform a usability study to investigate software for distance education.
May 2006: UWTC Ph.D. students Julie Carpenter and Matt Eliot conduct a human-robot interaction study.
May 2006: HITL members Dr. Brian Schowengerdt and Dr. Don Parker perform a pilot study on visual search, in collaboration with Seimens and PARVAC.
April 2006: LUTE goes to CHI'06 in Montreal! Zhiwei Guan, Shirley Lee, Elisabeth Cuddihy and Judy Ramey presented research results on The Validity of the Stimulated Retrospective Think-Aloud Method as Measured by Eye Tracking.
The Laboratory for Usability Testing and Evaluation (LUTE) was founded in 1990 as a self-supporting research facility within the Department of Technical Communcation at the University of Washington.
LUTE is an interdisciplinary facility funded by the UW Student Technology Fee and by research projects funded by companies and organizations. LUTE also supports research projects led by UW faculty and students, and LUTE provides training facilities for graduate and undergraduate students who are studying usability engeering and user interface design.
