Sept. 14, 2009—A couple of items for the techies and gadget geeks (we know you’re out there):

1. UW goes mobile: UW just released m.UW, a free iPhone app that offers campus maps, course catalogs, news, events, athletics schedules and sports scores. UW Tacoma courses, news, directory information and videos are available, but our campus map isn’t (multiple maps aren't currently supported but may be offered later, according to the FAQ). In the meantime, I’m wondering: Is this a useful application for UW Tacoma folks? If you have an iPhone, check it out and let us know in the comments.

2. Customize MyUW:If you haven’t logged into MyUW for a few weeks, it’s worth a look. Thanks to UW Marketing, the page has a new design and fancy new customization features aimed at making it more usable and accessible. Tops on our list is the “Change Theme” button at the top left corner – click the arrows to change the colors and header picture. There are even two custom UW Tacoma headers and the option to show UW Tacoma's campus webcam. They’ve also made the navigational tabs easier to find and use and added a “drag & drop” feature, so users can move those little content boxes around to their heart’s content. Learn more about the new MyUW features here.

How about some Android love?

m.UW iPhone app seems interesting, but really most useful for the Montlake Branch. There is a Tacoma calendar, for example, but appears to have nothing on it. Academic calendar OK -- but is it always the same for all campuses? The course info would be even more helpful if it gave current enrollment. And when you click on a room link in a UWT course, it reports "building not found" (since it only looks at UWS map).
