Archive Storage Service for Research (lolo)

Service Description:
This service is a tape-based archival data storage pool that is part of the lolo file system.

The system is designed to contain data you wish to safely store but rarely access over the long term.

Data writes are cached to disk before being written to tape (fast), but data reads are done directly from the tape (slow).

Data is kept on 2 tapes at 2 different data centers within the Seattle area. Data is not encrypted on tape (but users may encrypt before upload).

All connections to the data storage will be done using SCP with a UW NetID authentication.

Service Options:
Variable amounts of storage may be purchased in 8 TB chunks.

A minimum of 3 years commitment is required.

You can select the name of the top level folder in the filesystem when the space is allocated.
Eligibility:

UW researchers

How to Order:
Email help@uw.edu and include the service name "lolo" in the subject line

Hyak will be offline from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. for scheduled maintenance the second Tuesday of every month. Every third month, the maintenance window will last from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. the following morning.

The minimum capacity which may be purchased is 8TB.

Storage must be purchased with a minimum 3 year commitment.

Price is based on the storage allocation you purchase, not the amount used.

Pricing will be updated on an annual basis on July 1st.

8TB of tape for 3 years =  $ 4412.16   ( $0.18 / GB / year, or, $15.32/ TB / month)
