There are two types of repair services available.
For departments: One is a fee-based service for departments with a UW budget number, provided by the Computer Maintenance Group. The Computer Maintenance Group provides and facilitates repairs of desktop computers, printers, and associated peripherals. Services include:
- Hardware repairs for PC and Macintosh systems, and printers
- Software operating system and application installation and troubleshooting
- System migration and data transfer
- Data recovery (very limited in house abilities); can facilitate for client with external recovery specialist.
- Spare parts and upgrades
For students, faculty, and staff: The second is a free drop-in service for faculty, staff, and students, known as Computer Vet. The Computer Vet is a free help-desk service offered to UW students, faculty and staff to assist with computing problems including operating system updates, anti-virus installation and updates, peer-to-peer (P2P) software removal and infected computers blocked from UW network access. The Computer Vet program will provide tools and guidance to clients for cleaning and securing their Windows computers. For individuals with computers suffering the ill effects of Windows viruses and worms, this service helps to clean their computers and get back online. The service is not designed to answer or fix general hardware and software issues; contact the vendor you purchased the product from, check your product warranty, or contact a private computer repair company instead.

Services are available to UW departments at the UW Seattle campus and nearby facilities. Special coverage at UW Tacoma and UW Bothell campuses are possible on a case-by-case basis. Services are not available to UW faculty, staff, and students for personally owned equipment unless the repair will be covered by a UW budget or it is covered under warranty by one of the vendors Computer Maintenance Group offers warranty service for (Apple).
