Streaming Media

Service Description: 

UW Information Technology provides streaming media services for UW staff, faculty, courses, and departments. Streaming media allows you to embed videos, music, and other digital media types directly into a Web site, or allow viewers to watch the media on a client such as Windows Media Player, Video LAN Client (VLC), or Quicktime without having to download the entire file first. Users can "stream" the media, which is a technology that allows media to be viewed while it is still loading in the background. Streaming videos make content easily accessible to a wide array of audiences.

Eligibility: 

UW faculty and staff, courses and departments

Availability: 

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except for irregularly scheduled maintenance

Price: 

This service is included in the Technology Recharge Fee.

A basic limit of 3 GB is included for faculty, staff, and shared accounts.

Additional data storage for this service is availalbe for a fee. To increase your storage limit, go to Manage Your NetID Resources, where you may enter a budget number and set the amount. The rate is $.35 per GB per month. Billing begins July 1, 2011.
