Interventional Radiology represents one of the most dynamic and exciting fields in medicine today. Major surgical procedures, many of them having significant perioperative morbidity and mortality, have now been replaced by minimally invasive image guided procedures that can often be performed on an outpatient basis.
The University of Washington interventional radiology faculty provides service at four major hospitals in the Seattle area, including the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center (Level 1 Trauma), VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Seattle Cancer Care Alliance patients also receive interventional care at the University Medical Center. A full spectrum of vascular and nonvascular procedures in adult and pediatric populations is performed by the interventional radiology section. The section is an active clinical service with daily outpatient clinics and an inpatient service. The section is also active in laboratory and clinical research. University of Washington residents participate in patient care and we have an ACGME approved interventional radiology fellowship with 5 positions.
