UW High School All Star Chamber Music Weekend
September 6th and 7th, 2008
The University of Washington School of Music is pleased to present the
High School
All Star Chamber Music Weekend 2008, an intensive two-day session
focused on
individual performance and chamber music. The festival is open to
students who
are enrolled in grades 10-12 during the 2008-2009 school year. Students
will be
placed in select chamber groups that will engage in rehearsals guided
by UW
School of Music faculty. Other activities will include master classes
and tips
for Washington All-State and All-Northwest auditions. There will also
be
opportunities to attend faculty performances and participate in
discussions
dealing with college applications and careers in music.

Auditions for membership in the two large concert ensembles of the UW
School of
Music, the UW Wind Ensemble and the brass, woodwind and percussion
sections of
UW Symphony will be held on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 in Meany
Hall, room
#268. Auditions will consist of prepared music as well as sightreading.
Interested students should come at the indicated time; no individual
pre-registration is necessary as the auditions will be 'blind', (behind
a
screen) to insure anonymity.

1:00-2:15 PERCUSSION

UWWE IN JAPAN!
In March of 2007 the UW Wind Ensemble completed a successful tour of
Japan where they shared concerts with outstanding Japanese college and
high school wind bands in the following venues:
3/16 (Fri) Kinki University November Hall, Osaka.
3/17 (Sat) Kobe Bunka Hall, Kobe.
3/18 (Sun) Sakuyo Gakuen Tokagakudo Hall, Kurashiki.
3/20 (Tue) Izumo Taisha, Izumo.
3/21 (Wed) Izumo Taisha Bunka-Place Urara Hall, Izumo.
3/23 (Fri) Kumamoto Prefectural Theater, Kumamto.
Additionally, the ensemble performed at the Izumo Taisha Shrine. This
performance is the first time that western music was allowed at Izumo
Taisha, the oldest Shinto shrine in Japan.
