Rich Sumstad

('93, BA Music Education, currently finishing MM in Music Education)

Rich Sumstad is head of the music department at Nathan Hale High School. His teaching responsibilities include Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Piano Lab.

The NHHS music department has undergone tremendous growth over the 6 years that Rich has been at the helm. From a department of less that 70 students involved in music to 250 students this year, the NHHS performing ensembles have consistently performed well at local and regional festivals.

NHHS takes pride in its commitment and support of other non-traditional student ensembles. From Rap and Folk to Funk and Rock there is a place for every student musician in the Hale music department.

In 1997-98, Rich received the Metro-region Music Educator of the Year Award.
