MUSED 410 A - INSTRUMENTAL REHEARSAL TECHNIQUES - 3 credit hours
MTWTHF. 9:30am-3:30pm. MEETS 8/10/09 - 8/14/09 ONLY
Mountlake Terrace High School.
Understanding and comprehension of instrumental rehearsal techniques
including score preparation/analysis; ensemble warm-up methods;
development of ensemble approach to tone quality, intonation,
articulation, stylistic interpretation, balance, etc. Development of
active listening/conducting skills. The class will be observing,
and conducting/teaching the Mountlake Terrace High School
Wind Ensemble.
MUSED 580 A - INSTRUMENTAL CONDUCTING - 3 credit hours
MEETS A Term. PLEASE NOTE: The catalogue lists this
as a class. However, conducting is taught on a private lesson basis, TBA.
Understanding and comprehension of instrumental conducting techniques
including score study and analysis; rehearsal technique; development of
independence; refinement of stylistic approach; development of aural
skills with emphasis on error detection. Overall emphasis will be on the
conductor as "teacher/performer". Participants will rehearse and
conduct the UW Summer Concert Band.
MUSED 496A - WIND AND PERCUSSION SCORING - 2 credit hours
MTWTh. 1:30-3:20. MEETS 6/29/09 - 7/9/09 ONLY
Room #27, School of Music.
Focus will be on scoring techniques for the contemporary wind band. Emphases on
1)study of scoring practices for the contemporary wind ensemble; 2)study of
individual instruments' color/technical capabilites; 3)scoring for the young or
incompletely instrumented ensemble.
MUSED 405 A - MARCHING BAND TECHNIQUES - 2 credit hours
