Research

The brown tree-snake (Boiga irregularis) was introduced to Guam, the southernmost island in the Mariana Island chain, in the mid-1940’s. The snakes have functionally or completely extirpated the native forest birds on this island within the last 30 years. However, the islands to the north have similar flora and fauna and lack the snake, thus can be used for comparison to Guam. Using comparative and experimental studies, I aim to determine whether the recent bird loss has led to changes in seed dispersal and herbivory between Guam and the snake-free islands.
