Pan Yangyang My research aims at finding a proper carbon material with tunable nanostructure suitable for usage in high performance supercapacitor. Using resorcinol and formaldehyde as precursors and sodium carbonate as catalyst, through sol-gel processing, carbon cryogels with desired micropores are obtained. I use BET test to study the relationship between synthesis factors and its final microstructures, in order to find a system with the highest performance. The typical carbon cryogels have a porosity of1.2~1.6cm3/g, a BET surface area exceeding 2000m2/g, and a mean pore size of 2~4nm. The capacitance of our carbon cryogel is of 105 F/g, with a figure of Merit (FOM) value around 7.8 W/g for operation voltage at 2V, compared with the maximum FOM value of 3.6 W/g reported in literature. One year of UW experience not only gains me broad knowledge in my professional field but also gives me lots of valuable friends and fun times. I enjoyed volleyball game every Friday with friends at IMA, academic modern dance class at UW dance program, dinner out at interesting restaurants in town. During holidays and quarter breaks I went traveling around in this country. Portland, Vancouver Washington, Oregon Coast, Red Woods National Park, San Francisco, Monterey, Yellowstone National Park. Hopefully I can come back to Seattle again coz it's just awesome! |
