Research summary
My research is about the coping mechanisms of the Nuoso Yi ethnic minority. Suffering is an universal experience for all of mankind. How people manage this stress, though, varies. One method for many individuals has been to turn to religion and spiritualilty. I am focusing on the Cultural Revolution as the source of one kind of traumatic experience to understand how the Nuosu's system of belief (termed by some as animism) can be used as a coping process.

Highlights
Born as a Chinese-American, I found myself in a lot of self-identity situations while in China. However, my experience has allowed me to learn about myself while discovering my ancestral heritage. There is nothing like waking up every morning and riding your bike with the thousands of other people out ready to start their day. I love people and culture so thus, I love traveling. I am hoping to go into the field of medicine one of these days, but not before many more years of schooling. I am currently looking into entering the Peace Corps Masters International program.
