Research summary

I worked in Dr. Richard Olmstead's lab in the Department of Biology for ten months, inferring the intergeneric phylogenetic relationships among all 16 genera in the subfamily Prostantheroideae (Lamiaceae, the mint family). I extracted DNA that represented all genera in the subfamily from fresh dried leaves of herbarium tissues and employed the chloroplast region trnL-F and ndhF in phylogenetic reconstruction. Although DNA samples had to be sequenced manually which demanded a tremendous amount of work, I was always in high spirits and exerted myself to obtain good sequences. The combination of these two regions resolved the evolutionary tree well.

Thanks

Thank you everyone so much for giving me the opportunity to study at the UW, and helping me even after I left. It was the best year in my college life. Studying was only a small part of it. More importantly, I made friends with the lovely people in the US. I love you all!
