Welcome to the Virtual Coach Project
This web site has been created to support the efforts of the research
team and disseminate information about the Virtual Coach Project. The
Virtual Coach Project is an initiative sponsored by FIPSE (Fund for the
Improvement of Post-secondary Education) of the U.S. Department of
Education.
There are currently more than 300 Construction Engineering and
Management postsecondary programs across the United States. Graduates of
these programs support an $850 billion industry that represents nearly
5% of the nations GDP. However, we believe that we are not doing our
best preparing students to solve the complex and multifaceted problems
they will face in the industry after graduation.
The Virtual Coach Project focuses on the development and
implementation of situational simulations for student-centered
problem-based learning.
This simulations can be shared across institutions and programs in
higher education. Situational simulations can help overcoming the
problems of course-centric, institution-dependent, and
instructor-focused education that prevents learners from integrating
concepts, taking advantage of expertise found at different institutions,
and expanding their educational experiences beyond traditional classroom
settings. |
