Licensing

Digital Ventures licenses to start-ups, publishers and distributors, commercial developers, and, through our site licensing program, directly to collaborating organizations. We prefer non-exclusive, source-available licensing arrangements for software, but we work with a range of deployment and financial models.

Some technologies in our portfolio have "ready-to-sign" Express Licenses available for immediate download. We also license Training and Educational Materials and many other technologies listed in our Emerging Technologies section. Please contact our office at ventures@u.washington.edu if you are interested in acquiring the right to use innovations that are not available as Express Licenses or otherwise listed on our Emerging Technologies page.

Digital Ventures also has the Technology Access Program (TAP), which allows members to observe research projects develop from an early stage and to access project work.

Training & Educational Materials

Digital Ventures licenses instructional material developed by University of Washington (UW) departments across campus. Instructional material, primarily designed for online distance learning, may be licensed for use "as is," or in a form that supports versioning for specific organizations or special environments. Typical values of transactions are $500 to $20,000.

Digital Ventures is currently working with several UW departments to develop a portfolio of instructional material that will be available through Express Licensing. For more information about licensing instructional material, contact Mary Fabien at mfabien@u.washington.edu.

Technology Access Program (TAP)

The Technology Access Program (TAP) is an arrangement that allows interested organizations or individuals to view part of the development process on a particular project. TAP members give a reasonable fee to help fund the project, and in return get access to beta versions and white papers, and direct contact with the researchers.

TAP arrangements are available only for select projects. For more information, email us at ventures@u.washington.edu.
