Chronology 1863 Born in Linz on July 19 1881 Begins to study law and classical philology at the University of Vienna, switches to economics 1883 Dismissed from the university 1884 Enrolls at the Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Berlin to continue his studies in economics 1886 Dissertation is rejected 1887 Leaves Berlin in ill health without completing his degree 1890 Returns to Berlin, co-founds the journal Die freie Bühne für modernes Leben, publishes Zur Kritik der Moderne 1891 Travels to Vienna where he meets Hofmannsthal, Schnitzler, and Beer-   Hofmann at Cafe Griensteidl, publishes Die Überwindung des Naturalismus 1894 Co-founds the weekly newspaper Die Zeit 1895 Marries Rosa Joel 1897-1900 Fervently s upports the Secessionist Art Movement, acts as adviser for the Jugendstil journal Ver Sacrum 1899 Leaves Die Zeit and becomes theater critic for the Neues Wiener Tagblatt 1903-04 Extended period of ill health 1908 Burgtheater critic for the Neues Wiener Journal 1909 Divorces Rosa Joel, marries Anna von Mildenburg 1912 Moves to Salzburg 1922 Moves to Munich                    1934 Bahr dies in Munich on January 15
