Sonnethal came to the Burgtheater in 1856 after a stay in Graz and Koenigsberg. In 1859 he was honored as court actor and in 1877 hired for lifetime. His versatility in the theatre profession ranged from outstanding hero and typecast actor, to director in 1870, to main director in 1884, to preliminary managing director in 1887/88 and 1889/90. Sonnenthal was one of the favorite actors of Vienna’s theatergoers.
