To achieve the objective for breastfeeding of infants and toddlers, the priority recommendation seeks to assure that health care settings, child care facilities, and work site environments are breastfeeding friendly.
Moses Lake Resolution Encourages Community Support for Breastfeeding

In August, the Moses Lake City Council adopted a resolution encouraging the community to support a breastfeeding mother’s right to breastfeed her baby anywhere.  The resolution states:

Recognizing that mothers have a right to breastfeed wherever they go with their baby even if that is out in public, the City supports a mother’s right to breastfeed on public or private property where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be, and encourages our citizens to recognize the benefits of breastfeeding and allow a mother to breastfeed anywhere any other person is allowed to be.

The Moses Lake Breastfeeding Coalition is bringing awareness to the resolution through outreach to local businesses and to WIC and Head Start to reach breastfeeding mothers. The Coalition will also offer assistance to businesses that want to become more breastfeeding friendly.

Target Audience:  The audiences for the resolution include breastfeeding mothers and community members, businesses, and other organizations that have the opportunity to support breastfeeding in Moses Lake.

Evaluation:  The Coalition will track the assistance requests from businesses in response to the flier.

Partners: Moses Lake Breastfeeding Coalition and Moses Lake City Council

Lead Agency: The Moses Lake Breastfeeding Coalition drafted the resolution and presented it to the Moses Lake City Council.  The Coalition is part of the Healthy Communities Moses Lake Project and works to promote, protect, and support breastfeeding in the community so that good nutrition at birth is a basic part of good nutrition throughout life.
