Meeting the Needs of Diverse Urban Schools
The Urban Study Group’s principal observation is that the UW Teacher Education Program (TEP) faculty, staff, and students are highly committed to the principles of democratic and inclusive education. Like all of us who work in the field of education, the TEP is challenged to respond to the rapidly changing conditions, backgrounds, and needs of students in public school classrooms. We offer critical recommendations that will enable a diversity of teachers to effectively teach a diversity of curricula to a diversity of urban schools students. Download paper»
Employment, Retention, Mobility, and Career Pathways of Graduates from the University of Washington Teacher Education Program
In this study, we provide baseline information regarding the employment, retention, mobility, and attrition rates for five cohorts of graduates from the University of Washington’s Teacher Education Program (UW/TEP). Specifically, it calculates the rates at which the UW/TEP elementary and secondary graduates begin their teaching careers in Washington state, remain in their teaching positions, move to other schools in their same school district, move to other school districts in the state, or exit the Washington education system over the time period 2000-01 through 2004-05.
