receives USDA funds for school meals
to adopt a school wellness policy by September 2006. (Law established June 30, 2004 from passage of U.S. Senate Bill 2507)

Establishes goals to be achieved by 2010 including: ensure that only healthful foods meeting minimum nutritional standards are available in schools; provide at least one hundred fifty minutes of quality physical education to students in grades 1-8; and form school health advisory committees in all districts. The law also creates a legislative task force on comprehensive school health reform. (Passed March 13, 2007)
Senate Bill 5436
Directed
the Washington State School Directors Association to develop
a model school nutrition and physical fitness policy by January
1, 2005 and required each school board in Washington to establish
its own policy by August 1, 2005. (Passed March 12, 2004)
Nutrition and Physical Activity Legislation in Other States
House Bill 3141 (see section 5)
Requires 150 minutes a week of physical education for grades kindergarten through 5 and 225 minutes a week for grades 6 through 8. Half of that time must be used for moderate physcial activity. Effective fall 2017. (Law passed July 27, 2007 from Oregon House Bill 3141)
