
Faculty Affiliate Jennifer Stuber is Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work at the University of Washington. Her research interests include: mental health policy, interventions to refute stigmatization, tobacco related health disparities and social norms and the stigmatization of smoking.
Major Research Projects:
- Social Norms, Stigma and Tobacco Control. Role PI. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholars Program. The goals are to study the social unacceptability of smoking including its potential benefits and consequences.
- Health Disparities: The Case of Tobacco Use. Role PI. Funded by WA State’s Department of Health (DOH). To develop a program at the University of Washington on health disparities in tobacco use including the development of a seminar series, an internal RFA to support research in this area, and to establish a community of experts at the UW to advise DOH on tobacco-related disaprities:
- Stigma and Mental Illness. Role PI. Funded by SAMSHA’s Mental Health Transformation Grant in WA State. To develop a statewide infrastructure to reduce stigma around mental illness and to promote recovery.This infrastructure includes the development and implementation of a targeted intervention for mental health providers in the State of Washington, a focused campaign with major news organizations in WA state to change the nature of coverage around mental illness as assessed with a content analysis, and a study of 700 front line clinical staff to understand their attitudes about stigma and recovery.
