2010-11 CALL FOR PROPOSALS


The West Coast Poverty Center (WCPC) at the University of Washington (UW) invited applications for the Dissertation Fellowship.


The WCPC Dissertation Fellowship supports University of Washington dissertation research on topics relating to the causes, consequences and effective responses to poverty in the U.S. Research should directly address, as a whole or in part, issues of poverty and inequality in the U.S. and the effects and/or implications for policy.


AWARD

The WCPC Dissertation Fellowship will fund University of Washington Ph.D. students for one quarter of tuition and stipend to support uninterrupted writing and/or data analysis time during Winter or Spring 2011 quarter.


ELIGIBILITY

Candidates must be University of Washington Ph.D. student in good standing, advanced to candidacy, and with an approved dissertation plan at the start of the funding period. Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method approaches are all encouraged as are submissions from students in any discipline.

Materials must be received in our office by Monday, August 16, 2010 5:00 p.m. (PST).

A full application includes one electronic copy in Word DOC or Adobe Acrobat PDF and four paper copies.


AWARD REQUIREMENTS

Stipends are intended to support candidates in the completion of their dissertation with uninterrupted writing and/or data analysis time. Funded fellows will be expected to submit a brief report of activities during the funding period in the quarter after the funding period and complete one paper suitable for publication from their dissertation within six months of the end of the funding period. Funded fellows also will be invited and expected to participate in a Center activities including seminars, workshops, and conferences.
