Women Studies Majors



Requirements for Students Declaring a Major in the Fall of 2006 or Later:
  1. WOMEN 200 Introduction to Women Studies or transfer equivalent (5 cr.).
    Women 200 is a prerequisite for most other Women Studies courses.

  2. Women 299 Community in Colloquia (2 cr.).

  3. One additional 200-level course in Women Studies or transfer equivalent (5 cr.).

  4. One Women Studies course focusing on race and ethnicity (5 cr.). Select one of the following:
    • WOMEN 322 Race, Class and Gender
    • WOMEN 456 Feminism, Racism, and Anti-Racism
    Note: WOMEN 323 History of Racial Formation may also apply with approval from the advisor.

  5. One course on feminist theory (5 cr.). Select one of the following:
    • WOMEN 206 Philosophies of Feminism
    • WOMEN 207 Introduction to Feminist Theory
    • WOMEN 455 Contemporary Feminist Theory (strongly recommended for students who plan to pursue graduate studies).
  6. Note: if 200-level course is used to fulfill this requirement, it MAY NOT also be used to fulfill the additional 200-level course requirement noted above in #3.

  7. WOMEN 357 Psychobiology of Women (5 cr.)

  8. 25 additional upper-division (300-400 level) Women Studies credits.  A maximum of 10 credits can be independent study.

  9. WOMEN 497 Internship (3 credit minimum required; may take up to 12 additional credits). See the majors handbook online and/or the Women Studies advisor for more details.

  10. WOMEN 494 Senior Capstone (5 cr.).
