Robin D. G. Kelley, Distinguished Professor and Gary B. Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at the University of California, Los Angeles will deliver a Sawyer Seminar Lecture and the Katz Distinguished Lecture in Humanities on Tuesday, November 7, at 7pm in Kane Hall Room 210. The title of the lecture will be “What is Racial Capitalism and Why Does It Matter?”
Kelley is Distinguished Professor and Gary B. Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is author of Africa Speaks, America Answers!: Modern Jazz in Revolutionary Times (Harvard University Press, 2012), Freedom Dreams: the Black Radical Imagination (Beacon Press, 2002), Race Rebels: Culture, Politics and the Black Working Class (Free Press, 1994), and Hammer and Hoe: Alabama Communists During the Great Depression (University of North Carolina Press, 1990), among others. His articles have appeared in Journal of American History, American Historical Review, Black Music Research Journal, and African Studies Review. His latest book project is tentatively titled, The Education of Ms. Grace Halsell: An Intimate History of the American Century.
