Meena Vashee Scholarship Deadline

Meena Vashee Scholarship is $2000 award given to one individual each year who is a survivor of domestic violence or the child of a survivor. You must be a UW undergraduate student to apply.

Edith Langley Memorial Scholarship For Nursing Students

A $250 scholarship will be awarded in Fall 2014 by the Edith Langley Scholarship Fund to a new or currently enrolled nursing student. The scholarship is awarded in memory of Edith Langley. Ms. Langley took great pride in her skill and training as a nurse and derived much strength and joy from the profession during her life. Are you re-entering school after a significant time away? Are you the first generation in your family to pursue a degree in higher education? Or simply overwhelmed by the prospect of coming to the UW?

Attend this free, one-day orientation to make your transition easier. Learn about time management, writing skills, stress management, networking, goal setting, financial aid, and on-campus services. Meet other returning students and share common questions and concerns.

The Alene Moris National Education for Women’s Leadership Institute is an intensive six-day program open to undergraduate and graduate women attending two-year or four-year institutions in the region or to those with residence in Washington State.

NEW Americorps Position

UW Women’s Center has a new partnership with Americorps. The AmeriCorps STEM Enrichment Coordinator will support the Making Connections program and the UW Women’s Center by improving the mentoring and tutoring components of MC, conducting outreach in local schools to recruit students into the program, engaging with participants’ families to enrich the program’s impact, and providing overall support to the after-school program.

The position closes Monday, June 30th for interview rounds.

Minding the Gap: A Forum on Gender Pay Equity

Join us for our “Minding the Gap” forum on Wednesday, April 23. We will explore the gender pay gap on a national and state level, and provide attendees with strategies to increase women’s income. The goal is to educate others in order to mitigate the gender income disparity. The panel discussion will include:

  • Lisa Maatz, Vice President of Government Relations for AAUW
  • Janet Chung, Legal & Legislative Counsel from Legal Voice

Male Allyship – A Dialogue on Masculinity

Join us with the School of Social Work for a thought provoking dialogue exploring gender socialization, men’s accountability and allyship in a safe space. The event is scheduled for April 10 at the School of Social Work Room 305. Social Justice Advocate, Peter Qualliotine, from the Organization for Prostitution Survivors will be the main speaker of the evening.

11th Annual Western Regional International Health Conference

We are partnering with the Western Regional International Health Conference (WRIHC) Committee for the 11th annual conference April 4-6 at UW Husky Union Building! Our Executive Director, Sutapa Basu, will be one of the speakers at this amazing event. WRIHC will feature dynamic discussions on gender, sexuality, and social movements; networking with experts and colleagues; and the opportunity to challenge our assumptions and expand the scope of global health.
