Identification Characteristics of Maples

Most maples are deciduous like the vine maple shown here. However, there are a few evergreen species such as Acer oblongum.
ALL have opposite leaves
ALL have a winged seed
called a samara or key.
Many maple leaves are lobed

But there are other shapes of maples leaves

Acer rufinerve
Acer acuminatum
Acer davidii
Acer rufinerve

Acer davidii
