Washington Park Arboretum

Native Maples

There are 2 species of native maples at the Arboretum, Acer circinatum, the vine maple, and Acer macrophyllum, the big leaf maple. The vine maple is known for its spectacular fall color display, while the big leaf maple as an older tree develops a wonderful branching structure. Both species of maples are scattered throughout the Arboretum, but there are several specimens of vine maple in the courtyard plantings of the Graham Visitors Center.
