UWBG Education Staff Teaches Interpretation to Local Youth
For the past few years UW Botanic Gardens education staff members have participated in Expanding Your Horizons Conference for middle and high school girls at Shoreline and Bellevue Community Colleges. The mission of the conference is to encourage young women to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers. Through Expanding Your Horizons Networks programs they provide role models and hands-on activities for middle and high school girls. The ultimate goal is to motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st Century challenges. For the conference this year we offered the workshop "An Exciting Intro to Interpretation!" teaching about the science and art of interpretation and giving the girls an opportunity to lead a mini-interpretive tour of BBC Bellevue Community College greenhouse. Girls from several different high schools around Washington State participated in the workshop including: Liberty, Pacific Cascade, Auburn West, Sammamish, Two Rivers and Sumner HS.
520 Bridge Construction
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is considering options for replacing and expanding the 520 bridge across Lake Washington. This construction project will have significant impacts on the Washington Park Arboretum. More Information
