Due to the sensitivity of long-term environmental monitoring work being performed at the Wind River Field Station, the site is closed to the general public. However, guided field trips can be prearranged with the Site Director.

A typical field trip is an easy walk through the old-growth forest looking at and discussing flora, fauna and ecosystem processes. Visitors are usually restricted to students and professionals in environmental and forest sciences, but groups with similar interest in old-growth forests ecology may also visit.

Educators are especially welcome. For example, over the past several years the Wind River Field Station has hosted a day of research during the World Forestry Center's International Educators Institute. For 2012, this particular class is titled "Effective Teaching & Learning: Linking Research & Education." (see the full brochure)
