The UWSOM Department of Pediatrics Clerkship web site is at http://depts.washington.edu/peds/students/core_materials/core_index.html; here you will find Core Clerkship Materials including Goals & Objectives, the 32 Core Curriculum Cases (and a link to the included 20 CLIPP Cases), Exam Checklists and Benchmarks. WRITE Students will earn 3 weeks of Pediatrics credit during the on-site portion of the WRITE program while working with the family medicine preceptors and/or a faculty-appointed pediatrician in the community. Clerkship resources and requirements which must be completed (if not completed during the first 3 weeks of the rotation) include:
CLIPP and Core Curriculum Cases (32); the completion of this task is not tracked by the Pediatrics Department; however, they are a great learning resource and many of the questions on the exam come from these cases.
Completion and submission of 2 Physical Exam Checklist Forms: 1 newborn and/or 1 child less than 3 years of age and/or 1 child more than 3 years of age. Links to these forms can be found at http://depts.washington.edu/peds/students/core_materials/pdfs/neonatal_exam_checklist_.pdf and http://depts.washington.edu/peds/students/core_materials/pdfs/pediatric_exam_checklist_.pdf
Ethics Cases: the student does one (typically in the inpatient setting).
Pediatric Benchmarks: this information is used for H&P write ups, which are submitted to the Pediatrics Department during their inpatient rotation.
Clinical Encounters Worksheet: (see below) students must complete the clinical encounters worksheet prior to the end of their rotation and submit to the department with their test.
The student will be responsible for successfully completing the Pediatrics exam at the WRITE Site during the last month of the WRITE rotation. The exam is a competency-based exam that uses the material from the case scenarios and CLIPP Web Site and questions from the USMLE exam; examples of these questions can be found in the clerkship text, Blueprints in Pediatrics USMLE by Marino/Snea/McMillan, 4th Edition (which is available at each WRITE site). Should the student fail the exam, the student will then retake only the incorrectly answered questions on the exam. The WWAMI Regional Office will send the exam to the WRITE site administrator and ask that the entire packet be returned to the Regional office when the student has completed the exam. A copy of the answer sheet(s) will be made and then the entire packet will be sent to the Pediatric Department. If the student needs to retake a portion of the exam, then, please return both answer sheets to your WWAMI Regional Office.
