The UWSOM Department of Pediatrics Clerkship web site is at www.washington.edu/medicine/pediatrics/wwami/medical-students/write; here you will find Core Clerkship Materials including Goals & Objectives, the 25 Core Curriculum Cases (and a link to the included 20 CLIPP Cases), Pediatric and Neonatal Exam Checklists and Benchmarks. WRITE Students will earn 3 weeks of Pediatrics credit during the on-site portion of the WRITE program while working with the family medicine preceptors and/or a faculty-appointed pediatrician in the community. Clerkship resources and requirements which must be completed (if not completed during the first 3 weeks of the rotation in Seattle) include:
CLIPP cases (20 required) and 5 Core Curriculum cases; the completion of the CLIPP cases is monitored by the Pediatrics Department and feedback may be provided. CLIPP cases are a great learning resource and many of the questions on the exam come from these cases.
Completion and submission of 2 Physical Exam Checklist Forms: 1 newborn (up to the age of 2) and 1 child (age 2 or older). Links to these forms can be found at www.washington.edu/medicine/pediatrics/students/current/third-year/core-materials
Ethics Cases: the student does one (typically in the inpatient setting).
Pediatric Benchmarks: this information is used for three H&P write ups, which are submitted to the Pediatrics Department during their inpatient rotation.
Clinical Encounters Worksheet: (see below) students must complete the clinical encounters worksheet prior to the end of their WRITE rotation and submit to the department with their test.
The student will be responsible for successfully completing the Pediatrics exam at the WRITE Site (available to students March 1 to April 25). The exam is a competency-based, multiple choice exam that uses the material from the case scenarios and CLIPP Web Site and questions from the USMLE exam; examples of these questions can be found in the clerkship text, Blueprints in Pediatrics USMLE by Marino/Snea/McMillan, 6th Edition (which students are required to purchase during their inpatient experience). Should the student fail the exam, the student will then retake only the incorrectly answered questions on the exam.
Once the student has scheduled an exam date at his/her site (schedule between March 1 and April 25), the WWAMI Regional Office will send the exam to the WRITE site, requesting that the entire exam packet, including answer sheet, be returned to the Regional office when the student has completed the exam. A copy of the answer sheet(s) will be made and then the entire packet will be sent to the Pediatric Department. If the student needs to retake a portion of the exam, then both answer sheets should be returned to the WWAMI Regional Office. No questions about or discussion is allowed after the exam.

The Pediatric Clerkship Evaluation Form is available here as an evaluation aid. Preceptors may print this and distribute it to other preceptors who have worked with the student in Peds and then use these collected responses in summary form to input into the online evaluation system (called E*Value). More information on using E*Value and a direct link into the system will be sent to the primary preceptor at the time evaluations are due.
