Site Set Up & Administration

Computers at Site (Clinic and student housing)
and Issues of Connectivity

Computers have been previously set up at the WRITE Sites for student and faculty use, but beginning with the 2004-2005 year students will be required to bring a laptop computer to the WRITE Site rotation; the site will be asked only to provide internet connectivity and a workspace in the clinic and internet connectivity in the student’s living quarters.

Issues of basic networking and connectivity (the "what" and "how" of internet service providers or ethernet connections) can be directed to the computer support staff at your WRITE site.

Issues concerning the UW Connectivity Kit or UWNetID accounts or UW-wide computing services can be directed to UW Computing and Communications Information (206) 543-5970, www.washington.edu/computing/

For help with the Patient Visit Log Data Collection or processes that relate to recording medical student clinical experience information, contact Dr. Jan Carline at (206) 685-2135, carlinej@u.washington.edu

For issues related to the use of UW Health Sciences Library, methods of accessing online journals, textbooks and other online resources and access, contact Sarah Safranek, Information Management Librarian, at safranek@u.washington.edu or (206) 543-3408.

Norv Sytsma, (206) 543-6326, norv@u.washington.edu, or Scott Voltz, (206) 685-0769, svoltz@u.washington.edu, Senior Computer Specialists, Information Systems UW School of Medicine, can assist with general software questions or provide reference to the appropriate person. The phone number for the Computing & Communications Help Desk is (206) 543-5970, www.washington.edu/computing/

Much of the correspondence between the Department of Family Medicine and the students and faculty is accomplished using the First Class System. Contact Ian Simpson, Family Medicine Department, at (206) 616-3315 or at ians@u.washington.edu to get information about access to First Class; links to the Care Provider Toolkit and other Family Medicine resources can be found online at www.fammed.washington.edu/predoctoral/clerkship/
